Reese Brantmeier from the University of North Carolina, Carmen Herea of the University of Texas, Texas A&M University’s Lucciana Perez and Luciana Perry from Ohio State University have been announced as the four finalists for the Class of 2026 Honda Sport Award for tennis, as revealed today by Chris Voelz, Executive Director of The Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA).
The announcement comes during a landmark moment for the organization, as the CWSA celebrates its 50th anniversary during the 2025-26 collegiate athletics season. For five decades, the Honda Sport Award has honored the nation’s top women athletes in 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports, symbolizing “the best of the best in collegiate athletics.” The recipient will become a finalist for the prestigious Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the Class of 2026 Honda Cup, to be presented live on Monday, July 27, at 7 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network.
The tennis finalists were selected according to final ITA collegiate rankings and NCAA competition. The Honda Sport award winner for tennis will be announced later this week after voting by administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools.
Brantmeier, a senior from Whitewater, Wis., earned All-America honors twice in both doubles and singles for the University of North Carolina after finishing the season ranked No. 2 nationally in singles and No. 4 in doubles. The ACC Player of the Year, and 10-time ITA All-American overall, compiled a 26-3 singles record and 27-7 doubles mark this season while also earning ACC Academic All-District honors.
Herea, a sophomore from Bucharest, Romania, posted a standout season for the University of Texas, finishing No. 3 nationally in singles and reached as high as No. 1 in midseason rankings. The First Team All-SEC selection and NCAA Individual Championship singles quarterfinalist finished the year 23-8 in singles, including a 14-6 record against nationally ranked opponents.
Perez led Texas A&M to the 2026 NCAA National Championship while becoming the second Aggie to finish No. 1 nationally in singles. The junior from Lima, Peru, compiled a 28-0 dual-match singles record and won the SEC Player of the Year award for the second consecutive season. She posted a school record 32 consecutive SEC regular season wins after going 13-0 in 2026 SEC play.
Perry, a junior from Monroe, Louisiana, is a three-time ITA All-American in singles, just the second three-time All-American in program history and earned ITA All-American honors in doubles for the first time this year. Perry was part of the Big Ten 2026 NCAA Doubles Team of the Year and helped OSU reach the 2026 NCAA Championship Team Semifinals this spring. She finished the season with a 23-6 singles record and a 25-6 doubles mark.
