Izzy Scane, a graduate student from Northwestern University, was named the Honda Sport Award winner for Lacrosse as announced today by Chris Voelz, Executive Director of THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA).

The Honda Sport Award has been presented annually by the CWSA for the past 47 years to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA- sanctioned sports and signifies “the best of the best in collegiate athletics”.  The winner of the sport award becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2023 Honda Cup, which will be presented on a live telecast on CBS Sports Network on June 26^th, at 5:30 pm ET/8:30 pm PT.

Scane was chosen by a vote of administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Finalists included Delaney Sweitzer (Syracuse), Sam Thacker (Denver) and Jillian Wilson (Loyola Md.).

Scane was recently honored with the 2023 Tewaaraton Award, given to the top women’s collegiate lacrosse player in the nation, and was named the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Player of the Year. The attack player was also honored as the IWLCA Attacker of the Year and earned her second Big Ten Conference Attacker of the Year accolade.

Hailing from Clarkston, Mich., she led her team to its eighth NCAA Championship and was named the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player after scoring 18 goals during the tournament.

She led the nation in scoring with 99 goals on the season and averaged 4.95 goals per game. Her 99 goals set a program single season record. She also holed the program single-game record for goals scored with 10 in one content.

Off the field, she is an Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

The CWSA, entering its 47th year, has honored the nation’s top NCAA women athletes for their superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service.  Since commencing its partnership in 1986, Honda has provided more than $3.4 million in institutional grants to the universities of the award winners and nominees to support women’s athletics programs.
