Victoria Kadiri, a junior from Johns Hopkins University, was named the DIII Honda Athlete of the Year finalist for Track & Field as announced today by Executive Director Chris Voelz of THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) presented by Honda.

Kadiri is now designated one of 11 finalists for the prestigious DIII Honda Athlete of the Year. This will be voted on at the end of the academic year by national balloting among 1,000 NCAA member schools as part of THE CWSA program, now in its 47th year.

“I am incredibly grateful to be nominated for such a prestigious award; it feels great to have my hard work throughout the season be recognized,” said Kadiri. “Of course, none of this would be possible without the incredible support system that Hopkins has provided me over the years. My coach, Alex Jebb, my teammates, friends and family have been instrumental in keeping me motivated to perform, as well as my biggest cheerleaders, pushing me every day to be the best I can be.”

Kadiri is the first female back-to-back United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Field Athlete of the Year and was named the Outstanding Field Performer at the 2023 NCAA DIII Outdoor Championship.

The junior from Lynn, Mass., captured both the long jump and the triple jump at the 2023 NCAA DIII Outdoor Championship bringing her individual championship total to seven overall. She became the first person ever to sweep the long jump and triple jump at the NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships in back-to-back years. During the process, she set the NCAA DIII record in the triple jump and equaled the sixth-best distance all-time in the long jump.

Overall, she finished the season undefeated in both the long jump and triple jump.

“Victoria Kadiri is by far one of the most hard working and grittiest, yet humble, athletes that I’ve had the pleasure to coach,” Johns Hopkins head coach Mike Morgan said. “She simply loves competing and wants to do whatever possible to give both herself and the team the greatest chance to succeed.”

All Honda Sports nominees from DIII and DII become a finalist for the prestigious 2023 Honda Athlete of the Year in their respective divisions, presented in a live telecast on CBS Sports Network on Monday, June 26, from the campus of UCLA. The Honda Award finalists are recognized in 11 DIII and DII NCAA-sanctioned sports; cross country, basketball, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, volleyball, and track & field.

The CWSA, entering its 47th year, has honored the nation’s top NCAA women athletes for their superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service.  Since commencing its partnership in 1986, Honda has provided more than $3.4 million in institutional grants to the universities of the award winners and nominees to support women’s athletics programs.
