Alice Götbring, a junior from Barry University, was named the DII Honda Athlete of the Year finalist for golf as announced today by Executive Director Chris Voelz of THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) presented by Honda.
Götbring is now designated one of 11 finalists for the prestigious DII Honda Athlete of the Year. This will be voted on at the end of the academic year by national balloting among 1,000 NCAA member schools as part of THE CWSA program, now in its 46th year.
Hailing from Vaxholm, Sweden, Götbring was recently named the 2022 DII PING/WGCA Player of the Year and a Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) First Team All-American, for the second year in a row, in recognition of her impressive 2021-22 season. Götbring joins Tilda Larsson (’18) and Nancy Vergara (’13) as DII Honda Athlete of the Year finalists for golf and is only the second Bucs to have won the Player of the Year award for golf behind Larsson.
The Sunshine State Conference (SSC) Player of the Year and two-time All-SCC First Team performer dominated all season long, winning five tournaments to go along with three runner-up finishes. She recorded a 833-0 comparative record and a DII-low 72.54 scoring average.
Götbring’s postseason awards included the WGCA South Region Player of the Year after winning the individual title at the NCAA DII South Regional and she is a two-time WGCA First Team All-Region honoree.
“Alice was dominating, with five wins this year, so it’s no surprise she is a finalist for the DII Honda Award,” stated head coach Shannon Sykora. “She has worked hard over the last four years and is one of the best to ever play at BarryU.”
All Honda Sports nominees from DII and DIII become a finalist for the prestigious 2022 Honda Athlete of the Year in their respective divisions, presented in a live telecast on CBS Sports Network on June 27, 2022, in downtown Los Angeles. The Honda Award finalists are recognized in 11 DII and DIII NCAA-sanctioned sports; cross country, basketball, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, volleyball, and track & field.
The CWSA, entering its 46th year, has honored the nation’s top NCAA women athletes for their superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service. Since commencing its partnership in 1986, Honda has provided more than $3.4 million in institutional grants to the universities of the award winners and nominees to support women’s athletics programs.
