Amherst’s Ali Doswell Named DIII Honda Athlete of the Year Nominee for Basketball
Ali Doswell, a senior guard from Amherst College, was named the 2017 DIII Honda Athlete of the Year nominee for Basketball as announced by Executive Director Chris Voelz of THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) presented by Honda.
Ali Doswell, a senior guard from Amherst College, was named the 2017 DIII Honda Athlete of the Year nominee for Basketball as announced by Executive Director Chris Voelz of THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) presented by Honda.
Doswell is now designated one of 11 finalists for the prestigious DIII Honda Woman Athlete of the Year. This will be voted on at the end of the academic year by national balloting among 1,000 NCAA member schools as part of THE CWSA program, now in its 41st year.
Doswell, the 2017 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) DIII Player of the Year and NESCAC Player of the Year, concludes her career as the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,572 points, and ranks in the program's top 10 in rebounds (8th) with 664 boards, and is sixth in assists (334). She also set the program's record for three-pointers made and capped her career with 273 treys.
The senior guard from Richmond, Va., led Amherst to its second-ever NCAA Division III Women’s National Championship title and a school record 33-0 undefeated mark. Named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Final Four, she finished her career with a 114-10 overall record.
Recently, Doswell was named a D3hoops.com first-team All-American and is one of 10 finalists for the Jostens Trophy. She also earned 2017 Capital One College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District first-team honors and was a first-team All-NESCAC selection.

All Honda Sports nominees from DIII and DII become a finalist for the prestigious 2017 Honda Woman Athlete of the Year in their respective divisions, presented in a live telecast on CBS Sports on June 26, 2017, in downtown Los Angeles. The Honda Sports nominees are recognized in 11 DIII and DII NCAA-sanctioned sports; cross country, basketball, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, volleyball, and track & field.
THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards has honored the nation’s top NCAA women athletes for 41 years, recognizing superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service. Since commencing its sponsorship in 1986, Honda has provided more than $3.1 million in institutional grants to the universities of the award winners and nominees to support women’s athletics programs at the institutions.
