Lucciana Perez, a junior from Texas A&M University, has been named the Honda Sport Award winner for Tennis for the Class of 2026, as announced today by Chris Voelz, Executive Director of The Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) presented by Honda.
The announcement comes during a landmark moment for the organization, as the CWSA celebrates its 50th anniversary during the 2025-26 collegiate athletics season. For five decades, the Honda Sport Award has honored the nation’s top women athletes in 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports, symbolizing “the best of the best in collegiate athletics.” Perez is now a finalist for the prestigious Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and Class of 2026 Honda Cup, to be presented live on Monday, July 27, at 7 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network.
Perez was selected via a nationwide vote of administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. The other finalists for this year’s award were Reese Brantmeier (UNC), Carmen Herea (Texas) and Luciana Perry (Ohio State).
Perez, a junior from Lima, Peru, capped a historic season by finishing No. 1 in the final ITA singles rankings, becoming just the second player in Texas A&M history to earn the top national ranking. She helped lead the No. 3 Aggies to the 2026 NCAA National Championship, delivering a tiebreaker victory at No. 1 doubles in the title match and clinching the NCAA semifinal win at No. 1 singles to complete the first undefeated singles season in program history at 28-0. Perez also reached a career-high No. 12 national doubles ranking.
Perez earned 2026 ITA All-America honors in singles and was named the SEC Player of the Year after leading Texas A&M to its fifth consecutive SEC regular-season championship. A First Team All-SEC selection and two-time SEC All-Tournament Team honoree, she posted a school-record 32 consecutive SEC regular-season victories, including a perfect 13-0 conference mark in 2026, while going 7-0 against ITA Top 10 opponents.
Off the court, Perez was recognized as a member of the 2026 SEC Community Service Team.
“What an honor for Lucciana and it could not happen to a better person,” stated head coach Mark Weaver. “We are so happy to see all her hard work and determination pay off and receive such a distinguished award. Thank you to my entire staff for all their efforts in helping Lucciana and all our student-athletes reach their goals and full potential.”
As the CWSA marks its 50th anniversary, the organization continues its longstanding mission to honor excellence in athletics, leadership, academics, and community service. Since 1986, Honda has contributed more than $3.4 million in institutional grants to support women’s athletics programs nationwide.
