
University of Massachusetts Lowell Division II field hockey senior
Sammy Macy has been voted the nation’s top collegiate female athlete
in her division. The honors were based on the results of national
balloting among Division II schools as part of the Collegiate Women
Sports Awards program, now in its 35th year. Macy will be presented
the Honda Sports Award for Division II Athlete of the Year at a ceremony
at Columbia University in New York on June 27.
Macy, a native of Tewksbury, MA, captained her team to an undefeated
24-0 record and a national title this season. Macy scored a single
season school-record 30 goals and 76 points, as well as the single
game school record of five goals and 11 points. She had 7 game-winning
goals, and has career numbers of 91 goals, 38 assists and 220 points.
Macy is a three-time First Team All-American, was named to the Northeast-10
All-Conference First Team, and made the All-NCAA Tournament Team.
She graduated with a 3.08 GPA in criminal justice.
Noted Macy, "I am so honored and so humbled by this award. To even
be considered for the Honda Sports Award is an honor, but to win it
is a dream. This could not have been possible without the support
of our coaching staff and especially my teammates at UMass Lowell.
The year we had was unforgettable and everything we accomplished,
we accomplished together. This award is something I will certainly
cherish forever."
